Blogger, Ben Wilkoff, posted about a very interesting topic. Do we really need to go to classrooms to learn if we can just do everything on the computer? I have mixed feelings about this issue. While I think that being able to talk to people, face to face, is an important skill to learn I also think that the classroom is a waste of time. I get none of my work done in the classroom setting. Anyway, this was the comment that I left on Ben Wilkoff’s blog. This took a lot of thought, and I still am not completely positive about my feelings on this issue.
I think that it is defenitley really important to go to school. The only reason why I feel this way, is because school is vital for a child to get social skills and build confidence. Sure, you can have a conversation on the computer, but the computer will never replace a face to face interaction. No matter what you do, it is inevitable that you will have to communicate with at least one person throughout the day, face to face. The computer does not help kids build the social skills to have an in person conversation. School has also personally helped me build confidence. It actually takes a lot of guts to be able to raise your hand in a classroom full of thirty noisy, rowdy kids and answer a question. Does our society really want people who are unable to hold a conversation in person or who have no self confidence? I don’t think so. Despite all of this, there is definetly something to being able to just sit at your computer and do your work without any distractions. I can’t name a single assignment that I have done well that was done in a classroom setting. A classroom is just a really uncomfortable place to get your work done. Where does that leave me? I have no idea. I defenitley have mixed feelings on the subject. This is a very interesting question to think about. Until then, I guess all children are going to have to sit at little desks in our classrooms and attempt to learn.
This is a voice thread on the five qualities that I want to have as a person. This is about the person I’d want to be if I could change how I am right now. Anyway, this wasn’t a really hard voice thread to do for me because I really have a good idea in my head of the person I want to be. Sometimes I will be sitting there and I will be like “Oh boy, I wish I was more bold so I could stand up for what I feel.” Anyway, I hope this voice thread teaches you a little about the qualities in a person that I look up to the most, thanks.
The army’s stay in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania over the winter of 1777 was the turning point of the American Revolution. It was a major reason why our country won the war against the British. Well, then how come a lot of people don’t know much about this event? My group including Izzybell & Ice22 picked Valley Forge since we knew it would be a fascinating topic to learn about! I actually enjoyed this project because I found it really interesting to hear about all the hardships of the army. The hardships are almost unbelievable. Anyway, Izzybell did the voice recording (it is her voice on the video) she also helped find the pictures aided by ice22. I wrote the script, and researched most of the topic & matched the pictures to events. Did you personally learn anything about America’s history from our video? In conclusion, I thought this was a really creative project and I hope we get to do more voice threads in the future.
On November 4, 1912 Pauline Trigere, fashion designer, was first born. You probably have never heard of her before considering she was famous before our time, but you have probably worn things that she has invented. She is considered one of the most famous and influental female fashion designers of the 20th century.
Pauline Trigere actually made the first reversable coat. That might seem like a trivial thing to do but Pauline Trigere is actually a really important person in the fashion world. She immigrated to the United States in the 1930s from Paris, France and started learning about the fashion, here. Eventually, she sold about eleven of her designs to various botiques. She was a assistant to a famous designer, but then she decided to open her own line. She really had a great eye for fashion. All her designs had a great balance to them.
Quickly, she started becoming popular. By the 1950’s, she was designing for the rich and famous and was “a part of Hollywood Fashion.” You probably have heard of the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s, right? Well, Pauline Trigere designed and made a big portion of the wardrobe for that movie. Pauline Trigere is most famously known for her unique coats with her favorite ‘turtle’ print on them. Pauline’s designs influenced the style of coats worn by women in the 1950’s and 60’s tremendously.
By the 1970’s, Pauline Trigere started to slow down, but continued making perfumes & jelwery. She died in 2002 at the old age of 93 after living a full and sucessful life. People still wear Pauline’s designs today. For example, actress, Winona Ryder. In conclusion, Pauline Trigere had a huge influence on the fashion world. Maybe, your grandmothers knows of Pauline or has worn a design like hers. I know that I have seen pictures of my grandmother in the 60’s wearing a coat with Pauline’s famous turtle print. The big question, how has Pauline Trigere changed the world? Easy. She influenced the fashion world and changed the way many people dress & feel about themselves. Sources: One, Two, Three
