This is the second live blog I’ve done. Lunchtime Leaders keep interviewing mayoral candidate and we are supposed to blog about the interviews as they are going am. I am listening to Mayoral Candidate James Vambaco state, “I think we have too much gadgetry, too many things we rely on rather than our brians.”

I know personally, I rely on my cell phone and the internet to contact people. I can not talk to my friends for days or weeks at a time but I rely on AIM to keep contact with them and keep our friendship going. Sometimes I think its okay to be unsociable in person because you can think “oh, well I will always talk to them on AIM later.” I like the fact that, Mayoral Candidate James Vanbaco is embracing technology. He understands that technology isn’t going away anytime soon. A lot of people especially if it comes to work, have their whole lives on the internet. If something were to happen to their computer they would be lost. That is a bad thing. Your computer might not always be there, and you can’t be so dependent on it. You have to be a self dependent person.

An example of live blogging. Live blogging is you blog about your feelings, etc. while the actual event is going on. I blogged about Mayor Dickinson’s statements while he was being interviewed. I wrote down a few quotes, and wrote about how I feel about each and how the interview went in general.

“Classroom is vital to your sucess and schools sucess. Anything that disrupts that dedication of time and energy to learning is a problem. When the cell phones becomes a distraction then that is a problem. Firm believer that one on one is the strongest form of communication.” I believe with this statement that the mayor made. Sometimes in class peoples cell phones will go off. This is a major distraction and it disrrupts to whole class. I feel that cellphones are important because they are vital to kids communication but there is a place for them and in the classroom is not one of those places.”

I think that kids shouldn’t be able to have their cell phones in the classroom. Sometimes, a teacher will be teaching a lesson and a cell phone will go off. After that it is hard for the class to get back on track - it is really disruptive. I like that Mayor Dickinson undestands how important cell phones are to kid though. A lot of adults don’t understand just how important cell phones are to kids, so that is a really good quality.

“Whoever has the knowledge first will be the person who becomes the leader. You should learn everything that you can possibly learn. Learn everything. How to learn will take care of itself.”

I think that this is an interesting statement. One question. What if you are a plumber when you grow up. How will any information about geography be important to your job? Why is it important to then learn about geography if it is never going to be used in your adult life.

“Basics. Learn everything you can. Able to effectively communicate with their knowlede. No matter what your role might be, you are important as a person. You are unique as a person. You have a special look, a special intelligence don’t waste it.”

I also agree 100% with this. There are a lot of kids that have the potential to do really well in school and be sucessful but they completely waste it. It is really a sad thing to see.In general, I thought that Mayor Dickinson brought up some interesting points within his interview. He defenitley has different views than a lot of people on technology but he makes a lot of good points about it.

In case you did not know, izzybell, is my twin, and this week we really have the twin psychic powers going on. For her first blog post she wrote about tropical fish and coincidently so did I. I was about to write my 2nd post to Apple talking about there new iphone but she contacted AT&T about the Iphone first! I was really frusturated at that point! I debated for hours, actually more like minutes, about which company I should write too. Finally, it hit me like a ton of bricks. I should write about ICE CREAM!

It sounds silly but ice cream is basically my favorite thing to eat. For the last few days I have wanted to go to Cold Stone Creamery so badly. Whenever I go there my mom ends up spending a ton of money because I always want the birthday cake ice cream (which happens to be expensive). It is shown in the picture above. Cold Stone Creamery has to be the most interesting place I have ever been too. The first time I went there the people behind the counter started singing about waffles. I go to my mother, ”Are they crazy?” The employees sing and dance about basically everything you order. They mash up the icecream and make it with the ingredients right in front of you. It is so interesting to see! Their ice cream tastes really unique too. It is so soft and creamy. I wrote to this company because I think that what they do with their product is really interesting and keeps the customer going back for more. I was a little curious about why they did somethings. Anyway,  This is the e-mail I sent to Coldstone…

Dear Coldstone Creamery,

For my social studies class we had to contact companies and ask them a question we had on our minds. Of course since I love ice cream, you were the first company that came to mind. Whenever I go to Coldstone, I order the Birthday Cake Remix icecream. The employee mixes the brownie and the other ingredients right in front of you. I was wondering, why do the mix the ice cream up? Does it give it more flavor or make it softer? Next time I go to Coldstone, I will watch exactly what the employee does to the ice cream, because I am so interested!

                                               Thank you for your time

There is some freaky twin stuff going on here. I just looked at my sisters blog and she also did a blog on tropical fish! I seriously had NO idea that she was going to do this as a blog entry and I am so freaked out! Anywqy, I was actually talking to Willywonka about how I used to have a pet fish named Angel and how it died. Over the years I have always wanted a few new fish. Fish fascinate me. I think they are probably the most beautiful pets you can have. They are really interesting to watch and observe. Whenever I go to a pet store I look at all the tropical fish because they are so amazing. I decided to read a blog about Tropical Fish. I stumpled across a blog called “The Fish House Blog” here. I went on google and searched blogs+tropical fish. Most of the blogs didn’t really have any interesting information but I saw the Fish House Blog and it really caught my eye. I am pretty sure that the fish house is like an aquarium and they have many fish there. The blog recorded all the hapennings at the fish house. They talked about all the new fish they get there, and all the tanks, etc. It was extremely entertaining to read about all the interesting things the creatures at the fish house do. For example,

“Did my Bleeding Heart Tetras eat all my Galaxy Rasboras? They’ve all disappeared!

Male Nicaragua Cichlid starts fighting with the Female, I’ve had to move her to a quarantine tank, for he injuries to heal, torn fins, and scales, and then she started beating up some Corydoras Sterbai, so she’s been moved to a lonley tank all on her own.” -FishHouse Blog

The most amazing part of this blog were all the pictures of the fish! They were really clear, colorful, and gave you an excellent idea of what the fish look like. This is a picture of a male lobster from the Fish House’s Blog. I thought that the picture was pretty amazing and I found it so fascinating how the Fish House had actualy lobsters living and breeding there.

I am currently still trying to figure out how to contact the owner of the Fish House Blog. As soon as I am able to figure it out (which hopefully won’t take a long time) I will leave this message: Dear Fish House Blogger, As an assignment on my Social Studies class blog I was supposed to read a blog that interests me and blog about it. I think fish, tropical fish especially, are extremely beautiful and interesting to watch! I found your blog and it was just perfect. I liked hearing all the interesting observations about what the lobsters and fish do at the Fish House. The pictures of the fish are really amazing especially on the Breeding Pair of Cichlasoma nicaraguensis post. In general, I thought that the blog was really interesting and it did not loose my inerest like most blogs. After reading this blog I defenitley want to get some tropical fish of my own! -Camear024

Everybody has obviously heard of the Leaning Tower Of Pisa.  It is probably one of the most famous landmarks in the world. Although, all that I really know about the tower is that it is in Italy and obviously that it is a tower that is leaning, haha. All through my years in school so far ocassionally a discussion in geography class will come up about the tower. Usually the teacher is talking about the towers tilt. I have always been curious about what exactly makes the tower lean but I have never been sure. Therefore, I thought that would be a perfect idea for this blog post.

In year 1173 the tower’s construction started. It was supposed to be a bell tower for Pisa’s cathedral. The tower did not tilt until five years later, after the third floor was finished, it started tilting and construction was put of for another hundred or so years. This was because it was discovered that the tower was being built on a clay mixture that was dense and unable to hold the tower’s weight. Mistake after mistake ocurred with the poor leaning tower. One hundred year later, Construction re-began by Giovanni di Simone. He added four more floors, but this made the tilt worse than ever! The belltower at the top of leaning tower was added in 1372. The tower was completed. After the completion, the tower was left alone until the 1800s. Alessandro Della Gherardesca came up with the idea to build a walkway for visitors around the tower in 1838. This made the tower lean even worse than before! Alessandro decided that the foundation should be filled with concrete to fix the lean, but the concrete just sunk into the clay, and the leaning continued. In 2001, the tower was reopened for tourists. The improvement of its lean is due to excavated soil, slings, and counterweights. one and only source
