This is an example of Insight Blogging.

One thing has become pretty evident to me since school started. Nobody is original anymore. It is becoming seriously frusturating. When somebody is original that originality is quickly taking away from them.

Everybody is always talking about the whole Abercrombie, Hollister, American Eagle, etc. issues. It gets kind of old, but this year in particular it is taken to a whole new level. In one day you can see about 5 or 6 girls wearing the same exact shirt. Where is the originality in that? Obviously, one day somebody started wearing that shirt and everybody saw her wearing it and basically copied her. Its the truth. The scarier thing is that the whole exspensive clothes issues has started with the younger kids except it is about ten times worse than when we were their age. I see 6th graders dressed completely head to toe in Abercrombie. Where are they learning this from? Us and all the people around them. They see other people wearing Abercrombie and then feel comfortable wearing it too. Some people dare to wear things from other places besides Abercrombie and Hollister. Then, people will see them wearing Delia’s for example then the next week 5 people will come to school with Delia’s on. Hello .. this is seeming like a weird trend.

Absolutley nobody is original in music anymore either. Everybody will either listen to the radio or listen to different kinds of music. I know a few people that really, really like certain alternative bands. Once they start listening to a certain band, and put in on their myspace everybody will start liking that band and start listening to them too. This gets extremely frusturating for people that start the trends. They felt a special connection to the music and then once it starts becoming popular the connection isn’t the same anymore. Its like when a band you like goes mainstream. Its completely ruined. I think a lot of kids can relate to this. I just wish people wore what they wanted to, listened to what they wanted to and didn’t try to be more like the others around them.

I don’t think that all students in extracurricular activites should be tested for drugs. This is because that would be a total waste of money considering the large amount of students in after-school activities. Money that could be used to help the school shouldn’t be wasted on such a cause. If a student wants to do drugs it is techically their problem or their parents problem. This is not the schools responsibility. Doing drugs will have consequences for them like doing badly in school and doing badly on teams, sports, or whatever they are involved in.

Moreover, Students on teams are usually extremely responsible and motivited students. They usually aren’t the type to get mixed up in bad groups of kids or do drugs. Children not doing after-school activites would most likely be the ones doing drugs, in the first place. If a student wants to do drugs and are relatively addicted then their is nothing that you can do to stop them from doing this. They will let nothing get in the way between them and their addiction. Therefore, taking away an after-school activity probably won’t eliminate drug use in the school at all. It will be a waste of good money considering that a lot of the problem drug-users won’t be in an after-school activity in the first place.

If a principal, parent, or teacher has good evidence that a particular student is doing drugs only then would i test them for drug use. I wouldn’t test random students, just ones that are the most likely to do drugs, whether they are involved in after-school activities or not.

Today, was defenitley full of coincidenes for me. Earlier today, I was sitting in a hot STEP room listening to the teacher drone on about pages and pages of rules for Mock Trial. Then, the teacher starts talking about a movie he recently saw. He explained that it starred Angelina Jolie and it was about a man who made a prediction that Angelina Jolie’s character was going to die very shortly. The girl had only a few days to live. The teacher stated,”This is interesting to think about. If you had only a few days to live, what would you do with your time?” I started thinking about this question today. And my answer would be If i had only a few days to live i wouldn’t be afraid of anything anymore and do all the things I was too afraid to do in my life.

After thinking about this in the morning i went on the computer the next period and saw this question was my assignment: If you had no fear what would you do? Everybody is afraid of something. Fear keeps you from doing a lot of things like maybe standing up for something you believe in or trying something that you might fail at.

If I wasn’t afraid I would be a extremely loud and outgoing person. I would say whatever I wanted whenever I wanted & would not ever be afraid of what people would think about me. Without fear, I would talk to everybody and not be afraid of people because they were “scary looking”, had a reputation, or seemed unfriendly. I would defenitley be a way more outgoing person. I’d be more willing to open up to people & not scared of people judging me for it. If I wasn’t afraid I would also do scary things  like sky diving or climbing a mountain. These are just a few things that I am scared to do.

I think if people in general were less afraid then they would be more themselves and wouldn’t follow trends. In the end, everybody is just afraid of other people and their judgements or what other people will think about them. I defenitley believe that this is the biggest problem with most of the people I know and they might not admit it but their biggest fear is just being themselves or standing out.

In conclusion, being afraid and fearful is something that will stop us from doing things all through our lives. It will probably keep you from doing many things as it has already in you life, but you have to try to suck the fear up and not let it get in the way of things you want to do whether they are big or little.

What was life like before the internet?

Most kids would be completely lost without the internet. Imagine if it was taken away from you right now. Would your life be different? The answer is probably, yes, very much so. This is exactly how your parents, grandparents, and other relatives born over 30 years ago used to live. They didn’t have the internet and defenitley not as much technology as we have today. It would probably do us all some good to learn about how life did go on without this crazy world of cyberspace.

Question Key

Q1. What kinds of activities did you do for fun when you were younger rather than sitting on the computer like a lot of kids do now?
Q2. What things were harder to do without the internet?
Q3. How has the internet affected the way you live & work?
Q4. What things were easier to do without technology

My First Interview : My Grandmother

Q1. I didn’t sit down at a desk with the computer. I went outside and played in the fresh air more and I went to the library very often. Now, the information that you can get in one second it would take hours to get. People didn’t live so far away. We were way closer to our families than people now a days.

Q2.  “For homework assignments we would have to go to the library and look up the information in the encyclopedias. We also used to have to write a lot by hand which was quite a pain.”

Q3. “It doesn’t have much affect on me because I have not been in the work force for many years, but if I was then i would imagine that the world and its information would be at the click of a mouse.”

Q4.  “Life was easier we weren’t so frazzled and everything didn’t depend on the computer. People had to use a little more of their heads.”

My Second Interview : My Mother

Q1.  “I had a lot of kids that lived in my neighborhood and we did activies like rollerskating and play games with monsters or hide and go seek type games. We just basically played outside a lot of the time.”

Q2.  “Doing research on projects and physically having to get up to go to the library to research was difficult. Also, it was difficult to contact friends. You would have to talk on the phone, see each other face to face, or write letters.”

Q3. ” The internet has helped me at work and in life because I can now update, acess, and share information a lot faster. Things on the internet are constantly being updated all the time.

Q4.  ” Friendships were a lot easier without the internet. You saw your friends face to face. When you’re talking on the computer your words don’t always come off the right way or the way you meant them to.”

Intervew #3: My Grandfather

Q1. “I went to the boys club and starting swimming in the pool there. I discovered that I was really good at swimming and eventually one a few awards. I also worked for supermarkets and grocery stores. I did not have a lot of time to fool around with friends. If there was homework or research to be done than I would go to the library. My social life really consisted of my cousins. They lived close by and i used to spend time with them.”

Q2. “Well, I would defenitley have to say that research and schoolwork were a lot harder. If I wanted to research than I would have to go to the library. It took hours and hours to do work and write up things. You could not just simply go and type up a report.”

Q3. “The internet has really affected my work. Since I am an engineer you can now do charts, graphs, and drawings on the computer more accuratley than before. It takes up much less of your time. If I was still a young engineer then I would probably be working on the computer a great deal.”

Q4. “I would probably say that getting exercise and staying healthy were a lot easier without the internet and technology advances. Instead of sitting on the computer basically getting no exercise kids used to go outside, run around, and get some fresh air.”

I decided to write a review blog on this book i just recently finished last night. The book is called Twilight and it is by Stephanie Meyer. So far, this is probably the best book I have ever read out of my whole entire life and I have read tons of books. The whole time I was reading it, it felt like I was really some how in the story. It was exceptionally well written and really life- like. The book was about a girl who moves to a new town to live with her father. She expects to have a horrible time but she actually meets a family of vampires and falls in love with one of them. I do not want to give too much away because then it would ruin the book completely. I extremely suggest that you read this book. It is exceptionally well written and its creative and tremendously unique.
